Today was the last day of our Active Schools Week. We completed our Walk a Mile in the morning and some of our teachers ran alongside the boys!
The dance of the day was 'Zumba Zonga' from GoNoodle. It was our favourite so far! The big event of the day happened at 11:45 with the teacher vs. student soccer match. (See teams below) Match report Both teams started the game well with some excellent defensive displays from our teachers. The score at half time was 0-0 which led to a very exciting second half. Our boys' team were ultimately too strong for the teachers who began to tire in the second half and they ran out 5-0 winners overall. Our supporters thoroughly enjoyed the match and enjoyed keeping both teams motivated. A special thanks to our referee Ms. Dunne and to our active committee who organised the event. Team sheet Teachers: Mr. O' Rourke, Ms. Corri, Ms. Farrelly, Ms. Feeney, Ms. Mulvey, Ms. Madden, Mr. McDonagh and Ms. Drohan Boys' team: a selection of the soccer team from 5th/6th class Referee: Ms. Dunne We really enjoyed active schools week and can't wait until the next one!! Don't forget to check out our pictures of the week! Our active homework for tonight is a paired activity of your choice with a member of your family.
Today our teachers ran class games with each of their classes. Each class will receive 5 medals for showing sportsmanship, effort and taking part. Today the two third classes walked over to Ellenfield Park to play some games and to use their playground voucher that they won from 'Walk on Wednesday.' The dance of the day today was 'I like to move it.' Today our the two fourths and fifth class walked over to the new pitch in Whitehall GAA club. Niall, our GAA coach, organised blitzes for the boys. Itwas our first time using the new pitch and the boys thoroughly enjoyed their morning. A big thank you to Niall and the TY boys who helped him.
The sun was shining today for our 'Walk a mile' and it was great to see so many boys beginning to jog and run more than they had before. Each class competed their 'Hoolahoopathon' with our brand new hoola hoops. Some of the games we played are listed below. Our dance of the day was 'Feel so close.' Don't forget to check out our Active Schools Week photographs which will be uploaded at the end of the week. Skipping-Challenge.pdf (1.9 MB) Hoolahoopathon games.odt (22.7 KB) Today each class had lots of fun competing in their 'Skipathon' using our brand new skipping ropes. We used our 'Skipping Challenge' to encourage us to skip as many times as we could.
Our 'Walk a mile with a smile' went really well with some boys walking/running more than yesterday. Our dance of the day today was Beauty and a Beat from Kidz Bop. The boys and teachers are really enjoying wearing their tracksuits. Despite the wet weather, our active school week started off with a bang today.
The whole school walked a mile with a smile around the school - some boys even ran! Our dance of the day today was 'Cheerleader' and each class had great fun performing it throughout the day. 6th Class boys also completed a survey - 'What club are you in?' in order to see how active we are outside in our school community. Our active homework tonight is - 5 sets of 1 minute jumping jacks. We will be tested on these tomorrow. We are excited for the week ahead! |
